Welcome to the Sertoma Club of Lawrence, Kansas Saturday May 9, 2009 ... Broken Arrow Park ... 31st & Louisiana The Sertoma 48 BBQ Contest is a fund raising project run by the Lawrence Sertoma Club. All the dollars raised go back into the Lawrence and Douglas County community. The Sertoma - Schiefelbusch Communication Camp is our primary recipient and the reason we work so hard to make this event a success. Help us help kids with needs.
What is 48 BAR-BQ? At the Annual Lawrence SERTOMA Cook-off, we call it the 48 Bar-BQ because we limit the competition to 48 teams competing for $4,800 in 48 categories. What is a Cook-Off? It’s a Bar-BQ Battle of professionals and amateur cooks to win dollar prizes and ribbons. The public is invited to sample meats prepared for judging. The event has been sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). Our competition is the State Championship, so our Grand Champion winner gets to compete in the American Royal Cook-Off! Can I taste the Bar-BQ? YES! “People’s Choice” is the favorite event at the Bar-BQ. For a $6 donation, you get to taste the entries and YOU decide the People's Choice winner! Proceeds from the event help send kids to the SERTOMA-sponsored Schiefelbusch Communication Camp for hearing and speech challenged youth.
